Stratton STEM Week - W/C 22nd March 2021

At Stratton, we are passionate about STEM and want to inspire and nurture the next generation; to understand the role that STEM plays in modern society and it’s importance for the economy. We pride ourselves on having excellent subject staff and facilities to enable students to thrive in STEM subjects.

Why should we be bothered about STEM?

  • Growing concern from UK gov’t since early 2000’s over shortage of STEM skills in the workplace
  • Most jobs of the future require basic STEM skills
  • It is the innovation from STEM industries that sustain our economy
  • STEM pathways open up a wide range of possible careers for young people- from science to the arts, STEM skills are needed!

We would usually celebrate STEM as part of British Science Week, which this year is being held WC 8th March 2021. Due to our students returning to school during this week, we have decided to hold our STEM events in a few weeks time, WC 22nd March, where we will be linking STEM across the curriculum in subject lessons, holding Science shows during lunchtime and completing fun and engaging class practicals and demonstrations during science & technology lessons.

British Science Week is still being celebrated during the week of the 8th March and given the current pandemic, many talks from top scientists and industry experts and being held online. This is fantastic for our students, as it enables them to access talks from a range of experts without heaving to leave home! Please see below a list of upcoming events across the UK which might be of interest to your son/daughter.
